After yesterday being grizzly, this morning dawned bright and clear. We’d have preferred today’s weather for our second visit to Berwick-upon-Tweed but at least we had good weather for packing up.
Heading back was a doddle: turn left out of the Berwick campsite, a few hundred yards up to the first roundabout and hang another left onto the A1. Keep going on the A1 for about 210 miles until you hit Newark-on-Trent where we were again booked into Brownhills excellent overnight area. The journey took five hours. I could have done the extra two hours to get to Frodo’s storage location and home but frankly I was glad I didn’t have to.
We did interrupt the journey for a comfort break and coffee stop. I’d intended to call into Scotch Corner services but got distracted by happenings in the cab and sailed on past the exit. Instead we called into Wetherby Services 30 or so minutes later. Unfortunately, the additional 30 minutes landed us slap in teh middle of lunch hour. There are 70 million people in this island and they all appeared to be at Wetherby Services. We managed to get a coffee and finally returned to the sanity of Frodo to continue our journey,
The remaining 80 miles was pretty much trouble free, apart from some small clag ups at junctions and we arrived at Brownhills at 14:15 to begin relaxing.
Tomorrow we’ll do the additional two hours to put Frodo to bed until his next adventure.
